One of the significant challenges the Panhellenic community is facing, due to the ongoing pandemic, is how to go about conducting philanthropy events. During this time, when these philanthropic causes need our support the most, chapter members and leaders are getting creative to find new and safe ways to raise money for these noble causes.

Among the many working hard for their philanthropy is Delta Gamma. Their philanthropy, Service for Sight, benefits the visually impaired who struggle to carry out day-to-day tasks. Across North America, Delta Gamma supports five schools for the visually impaired, as well as other organizations promoting sight preservation. Service for Sight has been a cause at the heart of Delta Gamma’s mission since 1936 when a blind member petitioned to adopt “Aid to the Blind” as their philanthropy.

Current sisters’ sentiments about this philanthropy have not changed since 1936. “Our philanthropy is so important because it caters to an often overlooked cause. Our goal is to help those in need remain hopeful, despite their challenges, and provide them with resources and tools necessary to aid them in their recovery and in their day to day lives,” French G., Delta Gamma’s chapter president, remarks.

Liz T., Vice President of Panhellenic Association and member of Delta Gamma explains, “To me, philanthropy is the best way for us to give back with love to our community and larger national community. Having specific philanthropies, like Service for Sight, helps us direct our mission of service and allows our women to connect on a deeper level both with each other and the people we serve.”

“Being a Special Education major, this philanthropy is very important to me because I have been able to work closely with a lot of students with visual impairments. I have been fortunate enough to have this eye-opening experience so that I feel even more inclined to raise money for the wonderful cause our foundation supports,” Mahalee L., PC ‘18, says.

With service and fundraising in the hearts and minds of many Delta Gamma sisters, Trisha S., their Vice President Foundation, has been working diligently to create their upcoming event benefiting Service for Sight. “Our chapter is so excited to make up for lost time and begin raising money for Service for Sight once again!” Trisha says. Trisha has been working closely with the Chapter Management Team (CMT) to create and ensure that this fun event is executed in the safest manner possible.

Delta Gamma’s philanthropy event, Delta Gamma Desserts, will be taking place on March 6th, 2021 from 3-7 pm. The event will be in-person with a drive-thru style pick up for a variety of different desserts made by the Delta Gamma kitchen staff. This eliminates extended face-to-face interaction and COVID-19 exposure. They will also have a delivery option available for those not comfortable with the pickup or curbside options. The ticket price is $5 and includes one bag of desserts. The proceeds from this event are going to benefit Service for Sight. Tickets can be purchased online.
