Dispelling myths and rumors about our community.
Often, fraternity and sorority life doesn't get the best reputation - whether that's from TV shows and movies that enforce stereotypes of Greek membership or social media accounts that tout dangerous and immature actions of Greek members. Sometimes, we even just get misinformation from people who have the best intentions, but not a full understanding of the community. As Panhellenic members, it is incredibly important to us to work against some of the stereotypes, myths, & rumors that plague the world of fraternity and sorority life in general - both by better aligning our actions with our values and by addressing these myths head-on.
Discover the truth about certain myths and rumors below.
Your PNM number is correlated with your ranking as a potential new member. Therefore, if my number is 800, that must not be very good.

If I don’t wear the “right” clothes, accessories, and makeup, I won’t be invited back to any chapters.
Our recruitment is values based, so the intent of the process is to focus on who you are rather than looks. So, make sure to wear something you find comfortable and confident! When selecting your outfits, pick something that you enjoy wearing.
Only first year students (freshmen) can go through recruitment.
Recruitment is open to anyone who identifies as a woman and wants to be a part of the Panhellenic community! Women of all ages and undergraduate years in school are welcome to go through the process!

We strongly encourage everyone, even legacies, to consider all chapters while going through recruitment focusing on your experience. Being a member of a sorority is a time commitment, however, all of our chapters highly encourage each and every one of their members to get involved in other organizations and excel in their other commitments.
Being in a sorority leaves little to no time for any other involvement opportunities.
New members of sororities are forced to participate in activities such as drinking and going out.
Being forced or required to participate in drinking or going out is hazing. Hazing should NOT in any shape or form be part of your experience in the Greek community at Florida State. You should feel comfortable and welcomed in your new chapter at all times. Because our chapters consist of many different women with unique interests, our chapters and our Panhellenic Association offer a variety of activities to fill your time.
