Brunch Is The Most Important Meal of The Day

Breakfast might be the most important meal of the day, but brunch will always have a soft spot in the hearts of the sisters at Pi Beta Phi. On the morning before every home football game, sisters gather together for a Gameday Brunch. This long-standing tradition has welcomed sisters into the chapter and fueled school spirit for years.

According to Grace T. (PC ‘18), the tradition started long before she joined the chapter and she cannot imagine sorority life without it. "I remember one time we served ribs for Gameday Brunch! For brunch! It was a few years ago now, but the story is becoming an urban legend of sorts now. I’ve even heard new members talking about it as if it were something recent,” Grace says. Although the chapter would much prefer a waffle bar over having ribs again, the story is proof that the memories made at Gameday Brunch knit the sisterhood together.

A core value of the sisterhood at the Florida Beta chapter of Pi Beta Phi is sincere friendship. It is important to have a community and build lifelong sisterhood and membership. From new members to alumni, Gameday Brunches allow sisters to engage in the value of sincere friendship. Gameday Brunches are more than conversation and waffles. Many alumni come to the chapter facility and set up "Pop-Up" shops. One example is CallaDesigns, a custom Gameday jewelry popup shop that visited for the game against Jacksonville State University. Sisters are able to connect with and support their alumni while simultaneously building school spirit.

The chapter does not usually offer meals on the weekends, except for Sunday evening. These Gameday Brunches are a chance for sisters to spend quality time together at a time they do not usually get the opportunity to. Julianna C. (PC ‘20) states, "I enjoy being able to talk to my sisters about their weeks and reminisce on the memories we made together. It doesn’t matter if I had a bad test on Friday or if I’m a little bummed out. These Gameday Brunches really do help boost my spirits and give me a reason to look forward to the game. I’m really happy that Gameday Brunches give us a chance to start our day together.”

Gameday Brunches have evolved into something more than just a meal. Gameday Brunches are something that the sisters look forward to throughout the week, even if they don't necessarily look forward to watching our football team lose. Brooklyn M. (PC ‘21) says “There’s nothing like getting to be around other Seminoles and getting hyped for the games with your sisters. Gameday Brunches give us a chance to do just that.” Food and Friendship are what Gameday Brunches are all about. Being able to start the day with sincere friendship allows sisters to foster a sense of community and school spirit in a unique and tangible way. Everyone seems to be in a better mood on Gameday, and the sisters of Pi Beta Phi are no exception.
