Founder’s Day Encourages Reflection of Shared Bonds

On March 25, the women of Sigma Delta Tau gathered to recognize their 105th Founder’s Day. Founder’s Day acts as a time for sisters to celebrate their bonds and history of chapter culture.

“This is the first year that we have held a larger Founder’s Day event. We wanted to make sure to celebrate the day and our Founders as they are the reason we have our chapter and all of our amazing sisters,” Lauren B., Vice President of Scholarship, says.

Lauren, Kayla S., the alumni chair, and other members of the executive team came together to plan this event in a new way for the chapter. This year, they hoped a bigger celebration would help members bond even further over their shared connections to the chapter.

“We wanted to create an event that our sisters would enjoy and make it one that everyone could come to,” Lauren says. “This is why we chose to do it at our house during our normal lunch times. We wanted there to be an interactive activity for everyone to participate in. We spent a lot of time planning how we wanted to decorate the house, choosing a meal that we know our sisters enjoy, and making sure that the event was fun for everyone.”

The Founder’s Day brunch included picture frame decorating for those in attendance. The frames are meant to hold a sister’s favorite SDT memory. While the women could connect at the event, this served as another reminder of what makes SDT special to them individually.

“I hope this event helps chapter members connect to Sigma Delta Tau by reminding them that the foundation of our chapter is the strong sisterhood that we have built over the years,” Lauren says. “This event allows them all to hang out and appreciate the one thing that we all have in common, the love for our chapter and sisters.”

Not only did active sisters participate in the festivities, alumni came out to show their support as well. SDT’s chapter advisor, an FSU alum, as well as other local alums joined the celebration. Although they experienced different times in the chapter, while the women mingled there were shared experiences and stories to be told. This event allowed all members, current and past, to see a sisterhood that has continued and thrived through time.

“Founder’s Day gives us an occasion to honor our past while also celebrating the future of our chapter,” Kayla says. “We wouldn’t be the chapter we are today without the contributions made by our alumni. Including them in our Founder’s Day celebration allowed us to express our gratitude and instill the idea that our sisterhood extends beyond our time here at Florida State.”

Celebrating Founder’s Day is a way to remember the years of service and sisterhood that have contributed to SDT’s continued success. While each membership experience may be different, Founder’s Day offered members the opportunity to reflect on the bonds that connected them to each other and their chapter.

“Founder’s Day encourages us to reflect on the years of sisterhood, service, and the wonderful memories we’ve made with our sisters through our affiliation with Sigma Delta Tau,” Kayla says.
