Sisterhood can mean so many different things within the Panhellenic Community. Sisterhood is a major part of the backbone the Panhellenic Community rests upon from supporting sisters through ups-and-downs to simply lending a listening ear. The bonds created between sisters drive the aspect of community within each chapter. Through sisterhood, lifelong relationships can grow and flourish to the fullest extent. These valuable memories and connections created with one’s sisters are not something easily forgotten, nor should it be.
On March 9th, Phi Mu held their Mu Tea Party sisterhood event. The cheerful day was filled with storytelling, sunshine, and delicious mock-tails for the sisters to sip on. Sisters sat on the front lawn of the Phi Mu chapter facility and soaked in the beautiful weather outside. Ashley D., Vice President of Sisterhood, reached out to local Tallahassee businesses to provide her sisters with the best experience possible. Thanks to Tallahassee Picnics the sisterhood event had an adorable picnic spread, complete with decorative pillows and an abundance of cute table settings. The sisters also enjoyed delicious macaroons courtesy of Au Peche Mignon French Pastry Shop. Ashley loved working with these local businesses and making sure the event was photo worthy! The adorable setup, scrumptious treats, and consistent chatter ensured all sisters had a relaxing afternoon outside the Phi Mu chapter facility.
The adorable event setup provided no shortage of photo opportunities for the Phi Mu sisters. Dressed in their best picnic attire, the sisters were able to commemorate the event by grabbing cute photos with their friends. The sisterhood team made sure to snap lots of photos of their sisters enjoying the event. These pictures not only serve as storage for these memories but they also embody the sisterhood that exists between Phi Mu’s for years to come. Aside from taking photographs, the sisterhood team replenished beverages, assisted in crowd control, and overall ensured the event ran smoothly for their fellow Phi Mu’s.
Caroline B., a member of the sisterhood team, recalls her favorite memory from the tea party. “When the event was coming closer to an end, the new PC had such a cute idea to go get dinner from the kitchen and eat it outside rather than in the dining room. I feel that this little idea had such a cute outcome.” Caroline says. The desire of these sisters to elongate the event shows just how strong the sisterhood bonds are between the Phi Mu sisters.
This event couldn’t have taken place on a better day. It was a warm and sunny afternoon on the front lawn filled with stories of past memories and snapshots of new ones to be told in years to come. Sharing past anecdotes while simultaneously creating new memories is precisely what makes this event so special to the Phi Mu sisters. Sydney P. and Sophia P., a big and little duo attended the event together. Sharing stories and enjoying each other's company reminds the two sisters exactly what sisterhood means to them. Sophia states, “We were able to relax after midterms and just take the time to hang out and bond. I got to see Sydney, who I hadn’t seen in a while and it was so fun to chat together.”
Preceding spring break, the Mu Tea Party was a great parting event for sisters leaving Florida State’s campus during the break. “A lot of times sisters feel alone over break.” Ashley says, “My main goal was to remind everyone that as we go into the break, we are one sisterhood founded on love, honor, and truth.” The Mu Tea Party helps preserve the special bond between sisters, regardless of their ability, or lack of ability to interact over the break.
By creating an environment full of laughter and friendship, the Mu Tea Party will re-ensure the sisters that they are valued and appreciated. One of the biggest hopes of the sisterhood team who planned the event was to create a space where every sister feels comfortable walking up to the house and just enjoying the present moment. The sisterhood team has without a doubt accomplished this goal. Their focus on sharing memories while creating new ones in the process establishes a sisterhood to be proud of.
