Sweet Sisterhood Benefits Service for Sight

Combining sweet treats, service, and sisterhood, Delta Gamma hosted DG Desserts on February 26.

“I was so excited to welcome the community back into our chapter facility after hosting variations of the event over the past two years,” Vice President of Foundations Lauren L. says. “DG Desserts is such a fun philanthropy event and I was so happy I could help my chapter bring it back this year.”

DG Desserts was hosted at the chapter facility and members were responsible for selling tickets to the community. For $5 individuals could come to enjoy unlimited desserts at the walk-through stations. DG sisters took a hands-on approach to the event, creating groups to cook desserts that were handed out.

“I was so appreciative of the support from my sisters,” Lauren says. “I was so impressed with everything they created. I could see their personalities and be blown away with the creativity they showed.”

Lauren allowed sisters to create whatever desserts they wanted for the event, resulting in a variety of options from cookies to elaborate cupcakes. Notable options included a cupcake display garnished with anchors, the DG symbol.

“In years past we have had sisters come with various elaborate options for our guests,” Lauren says. “I was not sure what to expect with this event being the first one back. But my sisters blew me away with their talent.”

To prepare for the event, Lauren, Leila P., the Director of Fundraising, and a committee of members met to ensure the event ran smoothly. Together, they were able to come up with plans that allowed chapter members and attendees to enjoy a fun day.

“Our committees were a huge help, coming hours early to set up all the things we needed for the event and staying after to help clean up as well,” Leila says. “Lastly our amazing CMT board helped behind the scenes in the kitchen replenishing and organizing the many desserts that all the chapter members made for this event; they ensured that everything ran smoothly and we never had an empty tray.”

At the event, sisters supervised tables, helped promote with signs, and were in charge of setting up.“Most of us had not seen this event in person before,” Lauren says. “DG desserts has looked different every year I have been in the chapter and after reaching out to older members I knew including sisters in every aspect of the event would help us further our connection with it.”

DG Desserts benefitted the Delta Gamma Foundation and Service for Sight. These organizations help those with visual impairments.“It is so special being able to make a difference for a community that is underserved,” Lauren says. “Our philanthropy is an important part of our sisterhood and we love being able to help them throughout the year.”

Overall the event raised $7252. “I was so proud to see that number after the event,” Lauren says. “I could not have done this without my sisters. They blew me away with how involved they were through the whole process and their continued ticket sales helped us get to that total.”
