Every day, you walk by people that you have never met. You look at them and smile. That smile can change your outlook for the rest of the day. This is something that Sonal H., a Delta Gamma sister, says has impacted her future the most. Sonal is a Fort Lauderdale native who grew up recognizing that a person's smile not only impacts them but everyone around them. She knew from early on that she wanted to become a Dentist. She loves seeing other people's smiles and thinks that their confidence can significantly increase with a good smile.
Sonal is a senior and is looking forward to her next step in life, dentistry school. While studying for the Dental Admissions Test, or DAT, she was able to lean on her sisters for moral support. Sonal said, “I could not have succeeded without the help of my sisters.” Many of these sisters are current students and even alumni. They helped her pick out her classes, learn to be successful, and motivate her to become her best self. Keeping in touch with her sisters greatly impacted her life and is something she thinks everyone should do.
As a Panhellenic woman, Sonal gives credit to her chapter for allowing her to thrive. Sonal serves on the Honor Board of Delta Gamma and believes this position is a great way to help her sisters flourish. For Sonal, being a part of a chapter where she can count on her sisters to have her best interest at heart is something that has allowed her to stay driven.
Sonal prompts anyone who is starting their college career to get involved. She says that "One of my favorite memories was attending the Presidential Ice Cream Social and going to Landis Parties." Any event can bring people together. She advises everyone get involved in their chapters and meet as many people as they can. Getting involved can also help members find what they are passionate about. Sonal knew she wanted to be a Dentist before coming to college; however, for some of her friends, she has been there to help them find out what they are passionate about and how to turn that interest into a future career. This is something she values, and she is thankful her chapter can give her the advice she needs, and that she can give that advice back out to other sisters.
Being a Florida State Alumni is something that Sonal is genuinely looking forward to. Although she will miss her sisters and living in the house, she is so excited for her future. She cannot wait to visit her sisters and friends in all of the cities they choose to start their own careers in, “I cannot wait to see what they’re doing with their own lives” says Sonal. She cannot wait to come back and attend a Florida State football game as an alumni and dentistry school student. Sonal uses her position on the Honor Board and appreciation for a perfect smile to help hold her sisters to the highest accountability and allow their individual confidence to shine.
