Spring has sprung; meaning philanthropy season for the Panhellenic community! On March 2, the chapter women hosted their second annual philanthropic Kappa Delta on the Greens golf tournament at Capital City Country Club. “This event is important to me because giving back is what provides the life within our chapter. When we neglect our role in national and local communities, we lose the connection and purpose in our sisterhood as well. As a leader in Kappa Delta (KD), I have found that focusing on a purpose larger than our chapter itself is what allows us to thrive as a whole,” said Vice President Molly L.
At the Country Club, 18 teams of four players participated in a nine-hole scramble with games taking place twice throughout the event. Guests could also simply purchase a general admission ticket to enjoy the country club’s scenery via a golf cart, play putt-putt golf, and spend time with the wonderful women of KD. At the end of the day, scorecards were turned in and the winner from each shift was awarded. Each winner was granted a future meal at the KD chapter facility by KD’s talented Chef Dave!
This was Kappa Delta’s second year hosting Kappa Delta on The Greens and it continues to prove successful by the large amount they raise in donations. This year, the women were able to raise over $27,000 for two philanthropic organizations, Prevent Child Abuse America and Children’s Home Society of Florida. These philanthropies are dedicated to actively preventing child abuse and neglect before it happens by providing counseling and various resources to struggling families.
Vice President of Events and Programming, Isabel T., adds, “These philanthropies are so important to us because as KD women, we are focused intently on confidence, and instilling it in the people around us and in our community. These organizations provide both support to children who come from difficult households and instill confidence in them to overcome their difficult situations, and go on to succeed in the world.” Much like any of the other 16 Panhellenic chapters, KD and the wonderful women in it highlight the true beauty of philanthropy; serving a bigger cause with both humility and grace. It isn’t just about donating money, nor is it about donating time. It is all about perspective, heart, and motivation.
Madi G., Director of Philanthropy, sums up the event so beautifully, “We have the ability to give children and their families who aren’t in the best living situations a sense of hope and confidence that there is a better tomorrow coming.” This confidence and purpose are not only a reminder to these children and their families, but a mission for the KD women and the Panhellenic community as a whole to be humble, steadfast servants.
